Lao silver "dok pi-khune" design...

Unlike most other countries where sterling silver is 92.5 percent silver, TaiBaan’s silver jewelry is 95 percent pure. Lao silversmiths work mainly by hand to mould, twist, twine, and pull the very soft high-grade silver into the desired shapes and patterns. TaiBaan works with silversmiths trained by master silversmiths in Luang Prabang Province, the foremost centre of silver arts and jewelry making for centuries.

Throughout the country’s history, Luang Prabang’s silversmiths received royal patronage and commissions to create beautiful and intricate pieces for the royal family and for the royal temples. Some designs, such as the “dok pi-khune”, was originally used exclusively for the royal family. TaiBaan offers a line of traditional “dok pi-khune” earrings, bracelets and necklaces. Additionally, we work with our artisan groups to fashion contemporary designs.
